Google Ads Cost: Learn 3 Reasons Your Competitor Pays Less per Click

google ads cost

Google Ads cost has no price list. Every click is priced in an auction that runs the moment someone searches, and two businesses bidding on the same word can pay very different amounts for it.

Your bid, your ad’s quality and the competitors in the same auction set that price. Get the quality right, and you can pay less than a competitor who bids more. The budget, though, should start from the cost of a customer, not the cost of a click.

Google Ads Pricing Isn’t a Fixed Price List

Google sells search ads the way an auction sells stock, one placement at a time. The price moves with the number of advertisers, the quality of their ads and the moment of the search.

You Pay per Click, Not per Impression

On a standard Search campaign, an ad can appear a thousand times and cost nothing. Google’s own guide to bidding puts it plainly: with cost-per-click bidding, you pay only when someone clicks your ad and comes to your site.

That makes the click the unit you are buying. Whether the click is worth its price depends on what happens after it lands.

You Set the Daily Budget, Not Google

You decide how much each campaign may spend per day, and you can change it at any time. Google can spend up to twice your average daily budget on a given day when traffic rises. By the end of the month, it spends no more than 30.4 times that daily average.

A daily budget of EGP 500 can therefore spend EGP 1,000 on a busy day. Across the month, it stays within EGP 15,200.

Google Ads Cost Changes With Competition

The same keyword costs more when more advertisers want it. Sale seasons and holidays such as Ramadan bring more advertisers into auctions that are quieter the rest of the year.

A budget that buys 100 clicks in a calm month can buy far fewer in a busy one. Plan the season’s budget from the season’s prices, not from last month’s.

How Google Ads Cost Is Calculated in the Auction

Three things meet in every auction: your bid, the quality of your ad and landing page, and the competitors bidding beside you. Together they decide whether your ad shows, where it shows and what each click costs.

Your Maximum Bid per Click in the Auction

Your maximum bid is the most you are willing to pay for one click. It caps the price on manual bidding, and you are often charged less.

Bidding high buys a stronger position in the auction. It doesn’t make a weak ad or a poor landing page convert.

Quality Score and the Price You Pay per Click

Google rates Quality Score on a scale from 1 to 10 for each keyword. It combines three parts: expected clickthrough rate, ad relevance and landing page experience, each judged against other advertisers who showed for the same search.

Google describes Quality Score as a diagnostic tool, not an input in the auction. The auction uses the same three signals measured live, at the moment of each search, so the score shows you where your ads are losing ground.

Ad Rank and the Actual Cost per Click

Google combines your bid, your ad quality and the context of the search into Ad Rank. Ad Rank decides your position, and your position decides your price.

The click itself usually costs less than your maximum bid. Google charges only what is minimally required to clear the Ad Rank thresholds and beat the Ad Rank of the competitor immediately below you.

Why Your Competitor Pays Less per Click

Google states that even when competitors bid more than you, you can still win a higher position at a lower price with highly relevant keywords and ads. That is the gap between two businesses paying different prices for the same word.

A Landing Page Closer to the Search

A shopper who searches for a specific product and lands on that product’s page finds what they asked for. A shopper who lands on a home page has to look for it.

Google measures that difference as landing page experience. A closer match raises ad quality, and higher quality lowers the price of holding the same position. For what turns those clicks into orders once they arrive, read our analysis of conversion rate optimization.

Tighter Keywords With Clearer Buying Intent

Broad keywords catch people who are only browsing, comparing or researching. Your ad shows for them, some of them click, and you pay for every click.

A competitor who bids only on searches with clear buying intent pays for fewer clicks, and more of those clicks turn into customers.

Sharper Ad Scheduling and Locations

Ads that run all day across the whole country pay for clicks the business can’t serve. That includes calls after closing time and orders from areas the courier doesn’t reach.

Limiting ads to the hours and places that bring paying customers removes those clicks from the bill. The budget goes further on the clicks that remain.

How Much Does Google Ads Cost per Industry?

Google’s Keyword Planner shows a bid range for each keyword. The low end sits near the 20th percentile and the high end near the 80th percentile of what advertisers have historically paid for a top-of-page position. The ranges below come from Keyword Planner for Arabic searches in Egypt, pulled on 9 October 2026.

Keyword Planner reported them in another currency. We converted them to EGP at the Central Bank of Egypt’s average market rate published on 7 October 2026.

Industries With a High Cost per Click

Service businesses, where one customer brings a large bill, sit at the top:

  • Dental clinic (عيادة اسنان): EGP 17.7 to 67.8
  • Medical insurance (تأمين طبي): EGP 9.5 to 57.7
  • Furniture moving company (شركة نقل اثاث): EGP 19.4 to 49.2
  • Air conditioner repair (صيانة تكييف): EGP 13.4 to 38.1
  • Private university (جامعة خاصة): EGP 10.9 to 35.6
  • Cleaning company (شركة تنظيف): EGP 12.7 to 33.8
  • Lawyer (محامي): EGP 9.6 to 31.4

One dental patient or one house move brings a large bill, so advertisers can afford to pay more for each click.

Industries With a Low Cost per Click

Products with many sellers and many listings sit at the bottom:

  • Mobile phones (موبايلات): EGP 0.6 to 2.4
  • Cars for sale (سيارات للبيع): EGP 1.4 to 4.9
  • Women’s bags (شنط حريمي): EGP 0.7 to 5.3
  • Home furniture (اثاث منزلي): EGP 0.6 to 9.9
  • Sharm El Sheikh hotels (فنادق شرم الشيخ): EGP 1.4 to 10.1
  • Perfumes (عطور): EGP 1.5 to 14.8

A cheap click isn’t a cheap customer. A shopper comparing phones may click several stores before buying from one, and each of those stores paid for the visit.

Cost of Google Ads per Month vs. the Return

A monthly budget set as “what we can afford” has no link to what the campaign should return. Start from the customer instead: what one is worth to you, and what you can pay to win one.

Cost per Customer Matters More Than per Click

Take two clinics bidding on the same search. The first pays EGP 20 a click, and 2 in every 100 visitors book, so each booking costs EGP 1,000.

The second pays EGP 25 a click, and 4 in every 100 visitors book. Its booking costs EGP 625. The clinic with the higher click price wins the cheaper patient. For how that cost sets the return on the whole budget, see our breakdown of marketing ROI.

Cash on Delivery and Refused Order Costs

Under cash on delivery, Google counts an order when the shopper submits it. The money arrives only if the parcel is accepted.

Jumia, the listed e-commerce group, counts Egypt among its largest markets. It reports that cancellations, failed deliveries and returns rose from 22% of its gross merchandise value in 2024 to 26% in 2025. Say 25 of every 100 orders never arrive: an ad budget that cost EGP 1,000 per order costs about EGP 1,333 per delivered customer.

Managing Google Ads Is a Daily Burden: Why Hand It to Specialists

A Google Ads account doesn’t stay efficient on its own. The auction changes every day, and so do the competitors in it.

Keywords, Bids, Quality Score and Landing Pages Need Constant Review

New search terms appear, and some of them waste money. Bids that worked last month fall behind, and Quality Score drops when an ad or a page stops matching what people search for.

Each of these needs checking every week, alongside the rest of the business.

Every Day Without Oversight Raises Your Cost per Click in Your Competitor’s Favor

A competitor who improves their ads and pages pays less for the same position. Each week you don’t, the gap in what you both pay grows.

The difference shows up in your bill before it shows up in your sales.

Our team builds the keyword lists, writes the ads and sets the bids. They review search terms and ad quality every week and cut what wastes money.

We Judge by Cost per Customer, Not Cost per Click, and Adjust on It

We report what each customer cost you, not only what each click cost. Budget moves to the keywords and campaigns that bring customers at the price you set.

How much do Google Ads cost?

There is no fixed price. Each click is priced in an auction, and you pay only what it takes to beat the ad ranked below yours. In Egypt, Keyword Planner’s top-of-page bids range from under EGP 3 for some product searches to more than EGP 60 for some service searches.

How much does a 1000 impressions cost in Google Ads?

On Search campaigns, you pay for clicks, not impressions. On the Display Network, you can choose to pay per 1,000 viewable impressions instead. That price is also set in the auction, so it varies by audience, placement and competition.
